Bringing Experts and Families Together
In spite of major strides in research in neurology and psychology, family physicians, pediatricians, and healthcare providers on the front lines of detection and referral, have little to guide them on the visual, “in vivo” identification of behaviors associated with mental illness or developmental disability. People with rare diseases and their families are often isolated by the lack of knowledge of their primary physicians, and end up struggling on their own to figure out the right services and interventions.
But there is no need for such isolation – excellent researchers working on new palliative and targeted interventions are hard at work all over the world. Everyone does better when there is good communication – because there likely is expertise on the rare disorder – but the researchers are often silo-ed into their university labs working within a relatively small communities and out of reach of the patients who need them.
Since 1995, GL has developed a wide spectrum of services to deliver high quality media content to the medical community and families it serves and to bring the experts and families together – to share their experiences, and research.
